The Horniman Museum, London

Robin and Alec @ The Horniman Museum in London 1st July 2017

Robin and Alec’s wedding day started and ended with beautiful sunshine, set at the Horniman Museum with views overlooking London yet with a tranquil setting that could equally be in any rural setting across the country yet is nestled in Forest hill in the heart of South London. The day was the antithesis of their Engagement Shoot (add link) the previous winter where we sheltered in the bandstand for most of the day!

Robin and Alec met via Guardian Soulmates, they bonded over a love of conservation, discovering and nurturing a deep found respect for each other as individuals and the world around them. This reflected in their every action throughout the day and makes them such a wonderfully magnetic couple, friends and soulmates in the true meaning of the phrase.

It seemed only fitting that they planned their wedding in the city they met and at a venue that fosters a belief in conservation, nature and ‘bringing the world to London’ in such a beautiful setting. On the wedding day the world did visit London with Robin’s family travelling from her native California and Alec’s friends and family coming from as far as the Australia. On their day, the world visited South London in a spectacular fashion and the sun certainly didn’t disappoint any of their transcontinental guests.

Hosted in the Conservatory at the Horniman Museum away from the crowds and with exclusive use of the grounds in the evening, this beautiful Victorian escape just yards away from a beautiful view of the London skyline in the evening was a wonderful choice of setting for a summer wedding.

As part of their vows Robin and Alec planted a tree and as their wedding favours they gave every guest a personalised potted plant, allowing carbon emissions to be offset by a beautiful gift! Everything was ethically sourced even down to the exquisite vegetarian menu hosted by Suzanne James.

The day was beautiful, personal, emotive and fun; everything a wedding day should be. It had heart and soul and was a day with enough emotion to bring an occasional lump to the throat of a seasoned wedding photographer with smiles as far as my lens could see.

If you too would like to book your wedding day at the Horniman Museum, I personally couldn’t recommend the venue highly enough, just make sure you get a selfie with the walrus!
