The Wedding of Billie & Billy in Málaga, Spain

Billie & Billy met as teenagers at the family home of Billy (‘boy’ - as he is affectionately known by friends) in Periana where Billie (‘girl’) was visiting on holiday. It may have started as a holiday romance, but it certainly lasted… They remained close once Billie returned to England and with the support of their families maintained their relationship across two countries that included visits. Billy boy credits the invention of the Nokia 3210 in their being able to maintain long distance contact with each other, Billie girl has a slightly more romantic tale.

The support and love of their families was a central theme of the day and the warmth was easy to feel and bear witness to.

We absolutely love the photos guys!!! They are gorgeous!!! The lighting, the backgrounds. Just beautiful.

I get tearful just looking at them, I just love them.

- Billie

Billie & Billy later lived together in rural Greece and Spain before moving to live in London with their Greek rescue dog Nicos who accompanied the best man down the aisle.

Helen and Billie have been friends for some time, although I know them personally through their business as artisanal carpenters and our shared love of alfresco dining that has led to many an evening in Malaga and London sampling wine, tapas and bbq food. I (Sam) do build a surprising number of my relationships through food... indeed during their engagement photo shoot in Malaga city we took a break for tapas!

One of the great things about being a wedding photographers in Malaga is the huge range of venues that we get to discover. Along with the incredible light and views across the region, this has been one of the reasons that we call Spain ‘home’. The raised vantage point from Billy´s family home gave phenomenal views of the rugged landscape of El Cañuelo and Periana across the Sierras de Tejeda and the distant sea view across Vélez-Malaga.

Their wedding day was a true reflection of themselves; relaxed, full of kindness, warmth, great music , food and company. They partied late into the night and enjoyed every moment of their beautiful Malaga wedding day in June.

The wedding of Billie and Billy was shot on digital and 35mm film cameras. Please see our 35mm film page for more information about how you can incorporate film images into your wedding day.

We hope you enjoy this small glimpse into their beautiful wedding in the hills of Vélez-Malaga.

The Wedding of Katherine and David at The Marbella Club Hotel - Villa Del Mar

Villa del Mar is the Marbella Club Hotel’s exclusive wedding venue, a quiet retreat nestled above the edge of the beachfront, incorporating vintage Andalusian external architecture alongside modern interiors, and a private pool with elevated views of the Mediterranean offering sites of the famous Marbella Club Bridge that later hosted their fireworks display.

It is hard to put into a few short words how beautifully composed the wedding of Katherine and David at The Marbella Club Hotel’s Villa del Mar was, their day was expertly curated by Carla the founder of Tucco Weddings with the entire day being lavishly adorned with florals by Virginia Floristas. As a Marbella wedding photographer the day was truly a visual treat at one of our favourite wedding venues.

Katherine and David had certainly planned a beautiful day, but something that struck a chord with me was how they ensured that they spent time together just to talk and confide in each other. Whilst Helen concentrates on details and ambiance, I spend most of my time watching the couple looking for intimate, joyful and emotional moments...

After their ceremony instead of rushing to their guests, they stayed back, a flute of champagne in hand, they took a seat in the corner and simply talked and admired the ceremony area with the sound of the water features in the background. Only a few hours later they sat in a private garden to spend a few tranquil moments together, it was an endearing sight. That said, I am aware that they partied until the early hours of the next day surrounded by their friends and families.

Their kind and gentle nature could also be seen in the three unsolicited thank you emails that we received from Katherine and David upon receiving their sneak peak gallery and upon receiving their full wedding gallery.

This Marbella Club Hotel wedding was something very special indeed and so were the people involved in the day, it was an honour and a privilege to be a part of their day. We wish Katherine and David every possible happiness in the future.

How To Get The Most From Your Wedding Photos

We are often asked by our couples what tips we can give to help them prepare for their day. Here are a few ideas that we hope can help on you on your wedding day.

In addition to these ideas, we send all of our couples a PDF help sheet to give them a few more ideas nearer their wedding date in order to get the best out of their wedding photos.

Before your wedding day

Create a mood board…
It can be helpful to consider making a mood board of wedding photos that you like and share them with us. Often we find that you like certain aspects of our work. This can really help us get to know your wishes.

Schedule in the necessary time for each part of your day…
Schedule adequate time for each stage of the day - some people want more photography, some just a little. As long as adequate time is set aside for your photographic wishes then we can make your plans work seamlessly. For example if you would like photos of bridesmaids/groomsmen before the ceremony, schedule a few minutes into your timeline at this and each stage of your day.

Get your hair and makeup artist finished with time to spare…
Consider booking your make up artist about 30 minutes earlier than you think necessary - this prevents us being short of time for pre-ceremony portraits due to hair and makeup over running, which can cause delays throughout your schedule. If you want time for pre-wedding bridal/groom portraits or time for portraits with family or bridesmaids/groomsmen before your ceremony, then allocating time is useful and this is once your H/MUA has finished.

On your wedding day

You can’t hurry love…
As a bride or bridesmaid when walking down the aisle don’t look down and don’t hurry. Touch and look at each other during your ceremony. Don’t rush your first kiss - go back in for a second! It’s your wedding day, after all.

Live in the moment…
Consider going phone free for the ceremony and group shots. It helps us work more quickly, looks so much better in photographs and encourages your guest to switch off and live in the moment.

A Sunset Photoshoot…
Depending on the time of year there will be different lighting conditions. Consider planning time for a second portrait shoot as a couple just before sunset - if you wish to visit a location please schedule in more time. You can arrange this with us / your wedding planners.

Gather your Loved Ones…
For the group photos try to keep the list small and assign two confident people to gather together family members and friends - they will know key people on the day, saving time.

Make it Visual…
Confetti cannons, sparklers and fireworks are all visually spectacular can all add to the evening entertainment, your first dance and your evening exit.

Try a Pre Wedding (Engagement) Shoot…
Consider a pre-wedding shoot; it gives you a practise run and valuable experience of being in front of the camera along with extra time to discuss your wedding plans. We also offer post-wedding photoshoots that allow us to visit spectacular locations a few days after your wedding.

Find an Expert…
Wedding planners and high-quality vendors will make such a difference. We believe that experience, professionalism, and ambition to provide excellent service set experts apart from other options available. We will happily recommend some excellent wedding planners & stylists to any of our clients. They really are worth their weight in gold and have the ability to create a truly memorable wedding day.

We try and meet all of our couples in person to discuss the unique characteristics of your day. If you want to arrange a meeting with us then drop us an email at info@bloomfieldphoto.com

The Wedding of Valentina and Simon, La Cabane & Los Monteros

These wonderful people flew in from their home in a beautiful part of Southern California to get married at the exclusive La Cabane Beach Club at Los Monteros Hotel. They married just as the summer was ending and the autumn was about to begin; a time that lends itself well to beautiful sunsets and very warm, but not stiflingly hot evenings.

One of the great aspects of getting married in Southern Spain is the weather that accompanies. I believe the Californian, Canadian and Russian guests were all more than pleasantly surprised by the warm evening at an 8.30pm wedding.

One of the other unexpected joys of being a wedding photographer in Southern Spain is the variety of venues; La Cabane is a modern, chic venue with exquisite dining & catering, views of the Mediterranean, pretty Andalusian external architecture mixed with ultra modern internal facilities. It also has the added bonus of attached to a prestigious 5* hotel. It is a very different feel to some of the more rustic, rural mountainous venues only a few minutes away, yet La Cabane has a charm that separates it from other prestigious beach clubs in Marbella. Being a wedding photographer in Spain you have access to this and a wealth of other prestigious venues.

Both Valentina and Simon were lighthearted and kind in their every interaction and have a North American directness that is an endearing mix; I’ve spent a lot of my life in North America so they felt somewhat reminiscent of old friends. Their friends and guests were also friendly, welcoming and highly sociable. After they had finished ‘joining tables’ at dinner, they partied late into the night enjoying the beautiful food and entertainment provided by Los Monteros at La Cabane.

The Wedding of Harriet and Sean, The Ham Polo Club, London

“Hi Helen & Sam,

We had our first look over the photos and we were absolutely blown away by them! You have done such a great job and they really took us through all the emotions of the day again which was brilliant...they also helped to fill in a lot of the missing memories which we had from what seemed like a whirlwind of the day”.

-Sean

We first met Harriet and Sean in North London not long after we relocated to Spain. It was a cold evening and we found a warm fire lit corner of a beautiful pub to discuss their wedding plans.

We clicked with them straight away; they are warm, kind people who were easy to get to know and talk with.

Even throughout their wedding day they both checked in with us and the videographer to ensure that we had been well looked after by the venue (we had) which is always an appreciated gesture. Even the bride’s father made sure that we were enjoying ourselves!

Harriet and Sean had a beautiful day at Ham Polo Club along with their kind-hearted friends and family. They were genuinely a joy to work with and wish them every happiness in the future.

The Wedding of Alexandra and Jan, The Salutation

Alexandra was a good friend from my art college days in London, over the years we lost contact as often is the way with ‘growing up’.

I received a very friendly email from Alex explaining that she had become engaged to a wonderful man by the name of Jan. Alex asked if I would mind travelling to London to photograph their wedding. We met at St James’s Park to discuss their day and to photograph their engagement shoot. Much like their future wedding day, the weather was spectacular and it was great to catch up with an old friend and make a new one in Jan.

We chatted, snapped, walked and eventually rested on some deck chairs to watch the last of the sun set over Buckingham Palace.

Theirs was an intimate wedding full of warm and kind people spanning four generations. It was a beautiful day and one that I was very much honoured to be a part of.

The Wedding of Sophie and Luke, at Finca Amalur and Amare Hotel, Marbella

Sophie and Luke are a young, fun, energetic couple who were incredibly easy to work with. They were laid back and made for great company. Likewise, their friends were ready to party, yet kind and courteous.

Sophie had her preparations in a beautiful suite at the Hotel Amare on the edge of Marbella Old Town. The hotel gave her bridesmaids a huge preparation room where friends and family members started the celebrations early.

Their chosen wedding venue was Finca Amalur overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and parts of Marbella along with stunning views of La Concha - not many people know that Marbella is located at the bottom of a mountain range that is 1200 meters in height, which makes it taller than any mountain range in England, Wales or N.I. and just shy of Ben Nevis in Scotland which is the only British Mountain taller than La Concha.

With the sun setting across the mountains, views of the Mediterranean Sea and their guests enjoying the entertainment of the day, it is safe to say that their wedding day was a wonderful event for all involved.

Being a wedding photographer in Spain and covering destination weddings allows access to such a variety of venues, and we thank the couple for choosing us to be their wedding photographer in Marbella.

The Wedding of Rachel and Luke at The Four Seasons, George V, Paris & The American Cathedral, Paris

Rachel and Luke have a love affair with Paris, not that I blame them for loving one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Rachel like many Americans has loved the city from a young age; it’s a passion that her and Luke have long shared, it is an enchanting city. Having personally spent months of my life there, I cannot say enough about the city, every trip (and every wedding) reminds me why I love it.

We met in London to discuss their wedding day, I knew that they were planning to marry in Paris, but knew little else at that point; it was probably very useful that I had visited the beautiful American Cathedral before and knew Ave. George V just off the Champs Elysees well, I will however acknowledge that I didn’t realise just how beautiful the Four Seasons in Paris is; the penthouse suite was otherworldly and as you can see, it had the most incredible view of the city. To photograph a wedding in Paris is always a fantastic experience, but to be the wedding photographer in the penthouse of George V in Paris is quite something.

The service at The American Cathedral, and the reception at The Four Seasons, Georve V as well the entire day was magical; just as any wedding in Paris should be.

The Wedding of Frances and Johannes at Castillo Santa Catalina, Malaga

The story of Frances and Johannes is a romantic tale. Frances is from Ireland and Johannes is originally German. They live together in Switzerland although life has not always been quite so simple for them…

Like many of our clients, they work in highly skilled industries that involve lots of travel and throughout their time together they have made immeasurable efforts to grab whatever time they could to be together whilst living and working in different countries and (sometimes) different continents.

I have a deep admiration for couples who make long distance relationships work, though judging by the warmth and kindness they show each other, I’m not surprised that they made this work. Somethings and some people are just worth the effort.

Frances and Johannes and their families are warm, kind people who really made the time for every guest who visited their castle wedding at the beautiful Castillo de Santa Catalina in Malaga.

Their wedding day was on a beautiful hot September day with low golden sun and the warm Spanish evening that enabled their guests to enjoy a shared dance in the courtyard before heading inside for the late night dance floor.

Congratulations! We wish you both every happiness in the future.

The Wedding of Charlotte and Alex at Marleybrook House, Canterbury

We met Charlotte and Alex over a coffee, just before their engagement photo shoot. We discussed their wedding day, how to act in front of the camera, how to best relax and get the most from their shoot and many other aspects of their planning... but mostly, we discussed the vintage fairground that was at their wedding venue.

The fairground made such a great focal point of the entertainment aspect of their day; the venue is unusual yet elegant, there were quiet walkways, hidden gardens, a lake, a beautiful bridal suite along with endless items of decorations to look at that the venue had at their disposal, but the couple got it just right in bringing in so many of their own things including around 100 empty gin bottles.

If you are looking for an unusual venue with picturesque settings and great entertainment for your guests in South East of England then this would be an ideal setting.

It was a fun, quirky, gin soaked day with plenty of laughs, unusual decorations and smiles all around. We were honoured to be a part of it.

The Wedding of Katie and Rob, Hacienda San Jose, Mijas - August 2018

Katie and Rob are a young well travelled couple who brought their wealth of worldly experiences to Hacienda San Jose, near Marbella. They incorporated much of their international interests into the decor and entertainment. Their guests travelled in from so many far flung places across the world to attend their wedding day.

Katie and Rob’s guests were a fun, vibrant crowd who enjoyed partying into the night, and entertaining their respective families. The couple and the crowd were a loveable and eclectic group; yet it goes without saying that their Mexican guests were the best dancers. From the moment the music started to the moment we left, there was hardly an inch of room to spare on the outdoor candle lit terrace.

From the mariachi band, the Mexican decorations, the food, the globe themed cake, the guests and their attire as well as the wealth of entertainment provided, it was truly a beautiful celebration on one of the hottest days of the summer and one that we truly enjoyed being a part of.

The Wedding of Lilla and James at Villa Padierna Palace Hotel & Bronzzzano Beach Club

It was a beautiful June day as I arrived at Villa Padierna, ready to meet Lilla and her bridesmaids; it is easy to understate how beautiful this venue is and the suite I found myself in was no exception - understated elegance is the theme throughout.

You can read more about Lilla and James’ special day here on our blog.

The Wedding of Andrea and Barry, Marbella, June 2018

We met Andrea and Barry in Nueva Andalusia last year and immediately felt at ease with them. They are kind hearted, relaxed people and we knew that we would get along with them fantastically on their big day.

People often underestimate how important a bond is between themselves and their photographer can be; when you click with someone you feel that you can trust them and the couple felt happy to entrust their wedding day to us.

June is a fantastic month to get married in Spain, it is very hot but not as stifling as July and August can be, and you get the longest days of the year and therefore some of the latest and longest sunsets. You’ll never hear of a photographer complaining about a beach visit for sunset and this wedding was no exception

These are a few of our favourite images from their day. You can find a few others on our galleries.

The Wedding of Erin and Sam, Eydon, May 2018

It was our first time to Crockwell Farm and the surrounding areas that Erin and Sam call home and the weather held out beautifully for this May time wedding in Northamptonshire.

All I need to say about the couple is that they truly deserve each other in the kindest sense of the term. They are fun, kind, adventurous and were willing to be our guinea pigs with coloured smoke grenades - in fact they laughed their way through the smoke grenades and their answer to everything was always - yes let's do that!

Their wedding photos have since become a featured wedding over on the Crockwell Farm website - www.crockwellfarm.co.uk/wedding/erin-sam/ which is a beautiful venue nestled in the tranquil Northamptonshire countryside between London and Birmingham.

It was a fantastic, elegant and fun-filled day and one that we were delighted to be a part of.

Congratulations to Erin & Sam we wish you every happiness in the future as husband and wife.

The Wedding of Robin & Alec, London, July 2017

Robin and Alec’s wedding day started and ended with beautiful sunshine, set at the Horniman Museum with views overlooking London yet with a tranquil setting that could equally be in any rural setting across the country yet is nestled in Forest hill in the heart of South London.
